A Starting Point In Doing Branding Mockup

Business registration

Product or service presentation is essential in all fields. A good presentation is conducted with the help of the speaker’s effective skills and visual aid tools. Presentations help the speaker communicate with confidence, motivate their clients, and reduce miscommunication between both parties, which is the cause of work-related stress.

In the branding world, specifically, how you present your work to a client is crucial. You always need to prepare a clean, polished, and to the point presentations. It is crucial to be able to communicate with your client in any design process stage.

Among the different tools you can use, many professionals consider mockups as one of the most important visual aid tools today. They will help your client visualize and find the connection between their company and your brand design concept. Here’s how you can start doing branding mockups:

How to get a mockup?

There are different ways to obtain a mockup, but most markups are in Photoshop format. You can create your own, and it will take three steps: photograph a staged scene, create smart objects and build Photoshop actions.

If you don’t want to create it, no worries, creative designers have got your back!  You can find plenty for sale or free mockups on different websites online; just make sure that they are legally downloadable, royalty-free, and ready-to-use. You don’t want any conflict with your client at this stage.

Understand your file formats

Whether you will use a self-created or legally download a mockup, it will definitely be in a raster format. This means any design you have created needs to be in a raster format to import into your mockup. That being said, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work with vectors, but exporting in raster format instead.

A mockup won’t impress alone

Undoubtedly, mockups will make your designs look professional. However, your client will still need to have a look at the actual design file, so add this to your slides. For instance, when working on a bottle design, show how the bottle design label looks like on the bottle and also on paper. That will give the client a room to amend and connect with your designs.

Be clear with your client

Stay clear with your clients on the difference between what forms the mockup and what is the design they will be receiving. It is not the final product as some clients would choose to believe; it is only a visual display tool to demonstrate your work to them.

Choose your mockup

The whole point of using a mockup is to show off what your designs will look like in the real world. Yet, choosing a cluttered background or ignoring the company’s brand style may throw you to the opposite direction of what you are trying to do.

Mockup usage

You can use mockups for the following:

  • Signage
  • Packaging
  • Stationary
  • Website
  • Digital applications
  • Book covers

Pick the right way to narrate your branding story, and get your clients engaged and motivated with an excellent presentation. Mockups will help you convince the client on the new design approaches you are building.
