If you are an entrepreneur, you really deserve some accolades! You have paid your dues!!!
If you are an entrepreneur whether a successful entrepreneur or you are still trying to get your business off the ground, it hasn’t been easy and you deserve some accolades.
Entrepreneurship is the process of creating wealth, innovations and economic development. But to become a successful one is not an easy task and definitely not a journey you start one day and hit a goldmine instantly. It’s a journey of a thousand miles that begin with a step.
Becoming anย entrepreneurย isn’t for everyone. The life of an entrepreneur sounds glamorous when you’re on the outside looking in. Setting your own schedule, creating your own rules, and building the type of company you want to work for can be incredibly alluring. When you finally decide to venture into, you discover that the experience isn’t worth it.
The first time I started a business, rented an office and employed 3 staff, I failed before the rent expired and I didn’t have any other choice than to move on. I went back to the drawing board and evaluated and reassessed myself, the process, the networks, the channels and my activities and I discovered that that can’t work in this era.
What I was simply doing was ‘Pitch and get lucky’ and that is what many people still do. The belief was that when I opened an office in a very busy area, the business will get enough customers and things will just fall into place. That is what I called ‘pitch and get lucky’ or open and luck will shine on you.
Even if you have the best products or services, if you don’t know how to get your products or services in front of potential customers beyond your current business location, you will fail fast. Is not only me, many people still do that. They go to a busy street or junction to open an office or shop without employing the 21st-century marketing strategies. Your business location can be in one state while your market and the customers are in another state.
I expanded my business beyond my location by leveraging the internet to reach out to more potential customers
You see as an entrepreneur starting small and you have gotten to a point of managing people (employee) which is the hardest part of resource management in business, you will be faced with a herculean task of maximizing employee performance.
Apart from that, you will also face the following:
Cash flow management:ย ย Cash flow management is one the biggest challenges young entrepreneurs or start-ups face when starting a business. Managing cash to pay bills and carry out some other activities isn’t easy. In business, cash flow is the life wire. But managing it to ensure a continuous flow of cash becomes a problem for many.
Sales and Marketing:ย Sales and marketing ensure your products and services get in front of the right customers so that money can change hand and the customers get value, but do you know this is the part that is very hard for some startup? Many are scared to talk, they are shy and hate selling but they want to have a successful business. Without proper marketing with good sales and marketing strategies, you can’t strive.
Capital:ย If you are starting a business, capital might not be the number one challenge. I consider the market first and some other things before money. Notwithstanding, capital is pivotal to the success of a growing business. As a startup, you are faced with the challenge of raising fund for your business growth.
Products/services Development: Coming up with a good product or service to sell can be a doubting task for some entrepreneurs. Developing a product or service that meet customers expectation required a lot of work. First, you have to look at the market to know if there is demand for what you want to offer and also what others are offering and how you can develop a unique selling point to outshine your competitors.
When you look at all these challenges startups face especially in a business environment like Nigeria where the basic infrastructures are not readily available and government policies are not really favourable, if you are successful as an entrepreneur in this environment, you truly deserve some accolades.
