Fast Forward Accelerator 2027: $25,000+ Grants for Non-Profit Tech Startups

Fast Forward Accelerator

Fast Forward Accelerator

The Fast Forward Accelerator 2027 is a three-month programme for early-stage nonprofit organisations using technology or artificial intelligence to tackle social and environmental problems. Selected organisations can receive US$25,000 or more in unrestricted funding, alongside mentorship, fundraising support, product development guidance and access to Fast Forward’s international network of tech nonprofit founders. Applications for the 2027 cohort opened on August 17, 2026, with the current deadline set for September 7, 2026

What Is the Fast Forward Accelerator?

Fast Forward is an accelerator built specifically for organisations combining technology and nonprofit models.

The programme is different from a typical startup accelerator because Fast Forward concentrates on organisations that use software, AI or other technology as a central part of their solution to a social problem.

During the three-month programme, founders work on areas such as fundraising, product development, team building, impact measurement and scaling.

The programme finishes with a Demo Day, where participating founders pitch their organisations to people working across the technology and social-impact sectors.

Who Can Apply?

The opportunity is open to eligible early-stage tech and AI-powered nonprofits worldwide, including organisations based in Africa.

There are two particularly important requirements:

The second requirement is worth taking seriously. This is not an opportunity for someone who has only written down an idea for an app or technology project. Fast Forward expects applicants to have already built something that demonstrates their proposed solution.

Applicants are also assessed on factors such as:

Organisations working in different social or environmental areas can apply. The technology itself should be central to how the organisation creates impact.

What Does the $25,000 Funding Cover?

Selected organisations receive at least US$25,000 in unrestricted funding.

The unrestricted nature of the funding is important because the organisation can generally use the money where it is most needed rather than being limited to a narrowly defined project budget.

Beyond the funding, participants receive:

The programme also provides support for the Demo Day, including preparation of a professional pitch deck and other presentation materials.

Is It Open to African Organisations?

Yes.

The programme accepts eligible tech nonprofits from around the world, so an African organisation can apply. Organisations outside the United States do not necessarily need to have US 501(c)(3) status if they are recognised as nonprofits under the laws of their own countries.

This makes the opportunity relevant to Nigerian nonprofits developing technology for problems such as education, healthcare, financial inclusion, climate, agriculture, employment, civic participation and other areas of social development.

However, Nigerian applicants should pay attention to the programme’s time and travel requirements. The programme includes virtual sessions and an in-person kickoff in San Francisco, so international applicants need to be prepared for the travel and participation requirements.

What Kind of Organisation Would Be a Strong Fit?

Imagine a Nigerian nonprofit that has developed a working platform helping low-income students access educational resources. Another organisation may have built an AI-powered tool that helps healthcare workers identify risks in underserved communities.

Those organisations could be more relevant to Fast Forward than an NGO that simply uses WhatsApp, email and a website to manage its existing activities.

The distinction is important. Technology needs to be part of the solution itself.

Fast Forward is looking for scalable software-based solutions rather than organisations whose technology use is mainly administrative. (Global Grants Hub)

Application Deadline

Deadline: September 7, 2026 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. (AI for Impact)

Applications opened on August 17, 2026 for the 2027 cohort.

Because the programme has specific requirements around nonprofit status, an existing MVP and participation in the accelerator, applicants should check their eligibility before spending time on the application.
