The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has announced a call for applications for its “Digital Literacy for All” (DL4ALL) program. This initiative aims to equip Nigerian citizens with essential digital skills, fostering a digitally literate society capable of thriving in today’s interconnected world.
About the NITDA Digital Literacy for All Program
DL4ALL is designed to empower every Nigerian with the digital competencies necessary to access opportunities, contribute to national development, and secure a brighter future. The program focuses on three key areas:
- Integration into Educational Curricula: Collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Education, NITDA aims to embed digital literacy into the curricula of schools, ensuring that students from primary to tertiary levels graduate with 21st-century digital skills.
- Workforce Training and Certification: Partnering with public sector leaders and industry experts, the program offers digital literacy training and professional certification to enhance the skills of the Nigerian workforce, facilitating global job mobility.
- Informal Sector Empowerment: Through collaborations with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), state governments, and private partners, DL4ALL seeks to provide foundational digital skills to citizens across all 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs), enabling participation in the digital economy.
Training Proficiency Levels
The DL4ALL initiative offers training at two proficiency levels:
- Foundational Level: Designed for individuals with no prior experience using technology, focusing on basic digital skills.
- Intermediate Level: Builds upon foundational skills, offering training in more advanced digital applications relevant to study, work, and daily life.
Digital Literacy Competence Areas
The program encompasses six competence areas:
- Information & Data Literacy: Developing the ability to effectively find, evaluate, and manage information in the digital space.
- Problem-Solving: Enhancing skills to identify and resolve technical challenges efficiently.
- Digital Content Creation: Learning to create and share digital content responsibly.
- Communication & Collaboration: Utilizing digital tools for online communication and teamwork.
- Devices & Software Operation: Gaining proficiency in using various digital devices, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and computers.
- Safety: Understanding and practicing safe navigation of the internet.
