NSIA Prize for Innovation

NSIA Prize for Innovation

If you are building a startup in Nigeria that solves a real problem in healthcare, manufacturing, or climate and food security, the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority wants to hear from you. The fourth edition of the NSIA Prize for Innovation, tagged NPI 4.0, is now open for applications and the total prize pool on offer stands at $275,000, with the potential for top performers to unlock up to $1.5 million in additional funding.

Program Features

The NSIA Prize for Innovation NPI 4.0 is designed to identify and support high-potential Nigerian startups through funding, entrepreneurial training, mentorship, and strategic partnerships. The programme is themed “Building for Impact” and focuses on businesses capable of strengthening productive capacity, improving healthcare delivery, enhancing food security, and advancing climate resilience.

The competition runs across four selection stages. Initial screening of up to 300 startups will be conducted using an automated evaluation system, assessing eligibility, business model feasibility, innovation, impact potential, and team strength. From there, shortlisted startups move through assessment rounds, pitch sessions, and a grand finale Demo Day where the top 10 finalists present to judges, investors, and ecosystem partners.

This year’s total prize value of $275,000 comprises $220,000 from NSIA, $45,000 from the Cascador Prize for Impact, and $10,000 from the Wema Bank Enterprise Award. A separate PVAC Healthcare Prize of $15,000 is also available for startups building healthcare solutions in partnership with the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain.

Beyond cash, a major highlight of this year’s programme is the opportunity for winners to secure up to $1.5 million in funding through the Pula Xcelerator, providing access to growth capital required to accelerate expansion, strengthen operations, and scale impact. Selected startups also qualify to compete at the grand finale of the Wema Bank Hackaholics programme for a share of over ₦100 million in equity-free grants.

What You Will Gain

Participation in NPI 4.0 goes well beyond the prize money. Selected startups will share from a combined prize pool valued at about $275,000, and standout ventures may gain access to equity-based funding ranging from $500,000 to $1.5 million through partner investment channels designed to support scaling businesses.

Winners also receive a fully funded training programme at the Enterprise Development Centre in Lagos, covering business strategy, leadership, and operational scaling. The programme combines grant funding, world-class entrepreneurial training, mentorship and strategic networks required to transform innovative solutions into scalable businesses.

For healthcare-focused startups in particular, the PVAC partnership adds a layer of sector-specific mentorship and policy access that few programmes in Nigeria currently offer. And for any finalist, simply making it to the top 10 puts your startup in front of some of Nigeria’s most active investors and ecosystem decision-makers.
