IB PLC Hero’s Foundation is kickstarting a brighter future for Nigerian youths through entrepreneurship support.

For the past three years, International Breweries has implemented a far reaching and impactful empowerment initiative: Kickstart.

Kickstart is an African initiative of the AB InBev group the program hitherto has been successfully implemented in South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Tanzania. In Nigeria, the program started in 2016 and has run three editions in the South West and South East region of the country.

Unlike previous editions that were regional, the 2019 edition is national.

Kickstart (called Hero Kickstart in the South and Trophy Kickstart in the West), is aimed at creating a culture of entrepreneurship in young people by: enhancing participants’ business awareness and skills through training.

The Kickstart initiative also provides grants as start-up capital for new businesses or to support expansion of existing businesses while also providing post investment support through coaching and mentoring.

The programme supports youth-owned businesses through business training, seed capital, post-investment support (mentoring and coaching).

It is aimed at instilling a culture of entrepreneurship among Nigerian youths by encouraging them to develop their big ideas into sustainable businesses or expand their existing businesses through the provision of material and financial support which include:

  • Business development skill training
  • Business mentoring and coaching
  • Provision of grant for business start-up and or expansion

Eligibilty

In order to participate in the kickstart program, prospective awardees are required to fill and submit an application form. In order to be considered for the short listing, applicants are required to meet the following requirements:

· They must be from 18 years to 35 years.

· They must be able to communicate in English language (read, write and speak).

· They must reside in and have their business operations in Nigeria.

· Their business must be within the following areas:

                  Agriculture          

                  Circular Packaging (e.g. recycling)         

                  Climate Action        

                  Water Stewardship     

                  ICT                 

                  Education       

                  Manufacturing/Production         

                  Crafts       

                  Healthcare        

                  Others

· For existing business, their business must not be more than 3 years.
