What is Tax Identification Number?
The Tax Identification Number (Tax ID) is a unique 13 digit system-generated number assigned to all taxable persons and businesses in Nigeria for the purpose of tax administration, by the Nigerian tax authorities (Nigeria Revenue Service or State Boards of Internal Revenue) to track and manage their tax obligations and compliance history. It serves as a taxpayer’s financial identity within the national tax system.

- A Unique Identity: Each taxpayer has a distinct number used for all interactions with tax authorities.

- For individuals, their National Identification Number (NIN) automatically functions as their TIN.
- For companies, their Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number serves as their TIN.

Why TIN is Mandatory?

How To Get your Tax Identification Number
The Tax ID portal was introduced by federal government to simplify the process of retrieving your TIN, in your browser, visit: www.taxid.jrb.gov.ng or www.taxid.nrs.gov.ng and follow the steps below:
For Individuals:
- Click on the “Individual” tab on the homepage.
- Select National Identification Number (NIN).
- Enter your 11 digit NIN.
- Click on “Retrieve Tax ID”.
- Enter “First Name”, “Last Name” and “Date of Birth” exactly as captured by NIMC.
- Click “Continue”.
- 13 digit Tax ID will be displayed.
For Non-Individuals (Businesses and Organizations):
- Click on the “Corporate” tab.
- Select the appropriate organisation type.
- Enter your CAC registration number, as applicable.
- Click “Retrieve Tax ID”.
- 13 digit Tax ID will be displayed.
