Student Venture Capital Grant Program (Up To ₦50 million)

The Student Venture Capital Grant offers a new lifeline for students across Nigeria who have innovative ideas and want to turn them into viable businesses. This programme was launched by the Federal Ministry of Education (FMEd) under the name S-VCG or “STEMM Up Grant.” It provides a chance for full-time undergraduates in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medical sciences to access substantial, equity-free funding for their ventures.

The aim is to move promising student innovations — often born in classrooms or labs — into real-world impact, driving economic growth, jobs, and a new generation of home-grown startups.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the grant you must meet the following:

  • Be a full-time undergraduate student in an accredited Nigerian tertiary institution, studying in a STEMM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or Medical Sciences).
  • Be in at least 300-level or above, as the scheme targets students who are relatively far along in their studies.
  • Be able to propose a project or startup idea that demonstrates innovation, scalability and potential for social or economic impact (not just a class assignment).

Program Benefits

The Student Venture Capital Grant offers several key benefits beyond just funding:

  • Up to ₦50 million equity-free grant — this serves as seed funding to help you build, launch or scale your venture without giving up ownership.
  • Incubation support — selected ventures will enter structured incubation, helping founders build the business properly, refine their model, and prepare for market.
  • Mentorship and guidance — you gain access to experienced entrepreneurs and industry leaders who can guide you through development, growth and commercialization.
  • Access to tools and resources — including licenses and digital resources: the programme reportedly offers participating students access to a one-year license of a premium AI/productivity tool for application and development.

This kind of support is rare — especially for students. If you have the will and a solid idea, this grant could help take you from concept to startup.

How To Apply

  • The official application portal is svcg.education.gov.ng.
  • You will need to submit a project proposal or startup plan. Be sure to clearly outline your idea, its purpose, expected impact, and how you plan to use the funds.
  • Only applications that demonstrate viability, scalability and strong potential will be considered — although evaluation leverages AI-powered tools to ensure fairness.
  • Keep an eye on announcements by the Ministry of Education — most recent information is from November 2025 when the portal opened.
