Interledger Local Impact Mini-Grant Program 2026: Up to $3,000 for Community-Led Projects

The Interledger Local Impact Mini-Grant Program 2026 is offering between $500 and $3,000 to individuals and community organisations working to improve digital financial access. The programme is particularly useful for people who already understand the challenges in their communities and have a practical project they want to put into action.

The grant is provided by the Interledger Foundation, a nonprofit organisation focused on building more open and accessible digital payment systems. For this funding cycle, projects serving communities in the Global South, rural areas and peri-urban areas with limited access to formal financial services are encouraged to apply.

What Is the Grant About?

This is a community-focused grant rather than a conventional business expansion fund.

The Interledger Foundation wants to support activities that help people understand, experiment with and benefit from open payments and digital financial infrastructure.

Projects can include:

  • Community meetups and discussions
  • Workshops and demonstrations
  • Hackathons and innovation sprints
  • Research and policy projects
  • Financial inclusion campaigns
  • Storytelling and awareness activities
  • Content about open payments and digital financial access

Projects can be organised independently or together with universities, innovation hubs, coworking spaces, incubators, fintech communities or civil society organisations.

Who Can Apply?

One useful feature of this opportunity is that you do not necessarily need to be a registered organisation.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Individual community leaders
  • Nonprofits and civil society organisations
  • Cooperatives
  • Community groups
  • Innovation and technology hubs
  • Local fintech startups
  • Social enterprises
  • Open-source and open-innovation communities
  • Research and policy groups

Applicants from any geography can apply, subject to applicable US sanctions restrictions. You also do not need previous experience with Interledger. However, your proposal should show an interest in learning about open payments and a clear connection to the community you intend to serve.

What Will You Gain?

Successful applicants can receive $500 to $3,000 in grant funding for direct project activities.

Other benefits include:

  • Access to Interledger resources and learning materials
  • Connection to the wider open payments community
  • Opportunities to build local fintech and financial inclusion networks
  • Support for community-led learning and experimentation
  • International visibility for useful local initiatives

The money is intended for direct project expenses. General organisational running costs and capital expenditure are not eligible.

Deadline and Application Process

Applications opened on July 6, 2026, and are being reviewed on a rolling basis until November 11, 2026. The Foundation recommends applying early because proposals are assessed as they arrive. Projects should normally be completed within six months of accepting the grant.

Applicants need to submit a short application through Submittable, including a two-page concept note, budget and project timeline.
