The MORE HEALTH for Africa Program (MH4A) Cohort 3 is looking for established African social enterprises that are using innovative business models to improve healthcare access and outcomes. The programme offers up to €80,000 in catalytic funding, together with business support, mentorship, investor connections and opportunities for international exposure. It is a serious opportunity for healthcare ventures that have already moved beyond the idea stage and are ready to scale.
What Is the MORE HEALTH for Africa Program?
MH4A is a partnership between Boehringer Ingelheim and Villgro Africa. The programme was created to support social entrepreneurs working on healthcare challenges across Africa, particularly solutions that can reach underserved communities.
The third cohort is structured as a 12-month programme divided into two six-month phases. The first phase, Business Foundations, focuses on strengthening the company’s business model, team and governance. The second phase, Business Growth, focuses on investment readiness, fundraising, market access and scaling.
This makes the programme more suitable for an operating healthcare company than someone with only an idea.
Who Can Apply?
MH4A Cohort 3 is looking for post-revenue social enterprises operating in Africa.
According to Villgro Africa, applicants should have:
- Around US$300,000 in annual revenue
- Demonstrated impact reaching approximately 100,000 people
- A dedicated team
- A clear growth strategy
- Plans to raise US$1 million or more in the following year
- A healthcare solution with potential to expand its reach and impact.
The programme can suit businesses working in areas such as digital health, healthcare delivery, diagnostics, health financing, telemedicine, medical technology and other solutions addressing gaps in healthcare access.
What Will Selected Enterprises Receive?
The headline benefit is up to €80,000 in catalytic funding. However, the programme offers considerably more than the grant itself.
Selected enterprises can receive:
- Up to €80,000 in catalytic funding
- Tailored business development support
- Coaching and masterclasses
- Diagnostic panels
- Investor and partner connections
- Research support
- Investment-readiness assistance
- Opportunities for global exposure
- Peer learning with other Villgro Africa founders.
Participants may also get opportunities to showcase their work at the Making More Health Together convention in Germany and an event in Africa.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
For a healthcare social enterprise, raising money is only one part of the problem. A company may have customers and impact but still need help improving its governance, preparing for investors or entering another market.
That is where MH4A’s two-stage structure becomes useful. The first six months deal with internal foundations, while the second six months turns attention towards growth and external opportunities.
Applicants should therefore be ready to show more than a good healthcare idea. Revenue, impact, team strength and a credible scaling plan matter.
Deadline and Application Process
The applicaton for the MORE HEALTH for Africa Program is currenly opened and deadline is September 10, 2026.
