Agri SME Enterprise Support Program: for Youth- and Women-Led Agribusinesses Across Africa

The Agri SME Enterprise Support Program is now accepting applications from youth- and women-led agribusinesses in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania, and the deadline is September 11, 2026. That is eight days from today. The programme is implemented in collaboration with IACL and is designed to give commercially active agribusinesses the kind of structured, hands-on enterprise support that most small and growing businesses in agriculture cannot access on their own. No equity is taken. The support is free. And 100 enterprises across the five eligible countries will be selected, with 20 businesses from each country.

What This Programme Actually Provides

Most grant and support programmes for agribusinesses in Africa fall into one of two categories. They either provide cash with minimal follow-through, or they provide training with no practical implementation support. The Agri SME Enterprise Support Program is structured differently. It starts with an enterprise diagnostic for every selected business, an in-depth assessment of where the business currently stands, what is working, what is holding it back, and what specific support it needs most. Everything that follows is built from that diagnostic rather than a generic curriculum.

Depending on what the diagnostic reveals, selected businesses can receive support across several areas:

Business and financial management training and advisory, helping founders build stronger internal systems for tracking money, managing costs, and making decisions based on actual numbers rather than estimates.

Supply chain strengthening, which covers how the business sources inputs, manages relationships with farmers and suppliers, and delivers to buyers with the consistency that commercial customers require.

Business coaching and technical assistance provided by experienced advisors who work directly with the enterprise over the course of the programme rather than delivering a one-time workshop and disappearing.

Market positioning and access support, helping businesses identify and reach higher-value markets, structure their offers competitively, and build the kind of buyer relationships that generate consistent revenue rather than one-off orders.

Investor readiness and financial linkages, preparing businesses for conversations with impact investors, commercial lenders, and grant funders, including help with financial documentation and pitch preparation.

Quality, certification, and regulatory support for businesses that need to meet specific standards to access certain buyers, export markets, or formal retail chains.

Practical growth and job creation planning, turning business ambitions into structured plans with realistic milestones, resource requirements, and job creation targets.

Support with food safety, traceability, and digital systems for businesses ready to modernise their operations and meet the documentation requirements of more sophisticated buyers.

Not every business will receive all of these. That is the point of starting with a diagnostic. The support is matched to what the business actually needs, not what a programme manager assumes it needs.

Who Can Apply

The Agri SME Enterprise Support Program targets a specific profile of business. Before you invest time in the application, confirm that your business meets all of the following:

Your business is youth-led or women-led. The programme does not define an age cap for youth, so if you are a young founder or co-founder in active leadership of the business, you qualify. Women-led means women hold primary leadership and decision-making authority in the organisation.

Your business is commercially active in agriculture or the agri-food sector. This includes crop production, livestock, aquaculture, food processing, agri-input supply, cold chain and logistics tied to agricultural products, and related agri-food activities. Purely consultancy or service businesses with no direct agricultural value chain involvement are not the target.

Your business operates in one of the five eligible countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, or Tanzania. You must be registered and operating in the country through which you apply.

Your business works within agricultural value chains and with farmers, including smallholder producers. This is a signal that the programme prioritises businesses embedded in the agricultural ecosystem rather than those that operate at the finished-consumer end without upstream farmer linkages.

Your business has genuine potential for growth and market expansion. The programme is not designed for subsistence-level operations. It is looking for businesses that are already generating some commercial activity and have a clear path to doing significantly more.

Your business has not previously benefited from YEFFA investment. YEFFA stands for the Youth Entrepreneurship for Food and Agriculture initiative. If your business received support from a YEFFA-funded programme in a prior cycle, you are not eligible for this one.

You are willing to participate in diagnostics, coaching, site visits, and business development activities over the course of the year. This is an active programme, not a passive one. Selected businesses are expected to engage fully.

Priority Areas

The programme gives priority to businesses contributing to the availability, accessibility, or commercial viability of nutritious foods. If your agribusiness is working on anything related to nutrition-dense food production, distribution, or processing, make sure that comes through clearly in your application.

Enterprises within the Generation Africa and Value4Her pipelines are also part of the programme’s primary pipeline. If your business is already connected to either of these ecosystems, note that in your application.
