Two funding tracks are available depending on your stage. Idea-stage teams can receive up to ₦2 million in equity-free funding. Startups with a validated product and early traction can receive up to ₦5 million. No equity is taken in either case.

The programme covers structured masterclasses and workshops in entrepreneurship and innovation, mentorship from practitioners who understand both the technical and commercial dimensions of what participants are building, access to co-working space and IIH’s demo lab for prototyping and testing, connections to corporates, investors, universities, and government bodies, and a Demo Day platform where cohort members pitch for pilots, partnerships, and follow-on funding.
The CcHUB partnership brings one of Africa’s most credible innovation support organisations into the programme’s delivery. CcHUB has been building Africa’s technology ecosystem since 2011 and brings a proven track record in taking early-stage technical founders through structured commercialisation pathways, most recently through the GATEWAY Programme and multiple cohorts of its own incubation and acceleration programmes.
The Two Funding Tracks
Idea Track: This is for teams at the idea or early prototype stage who have identified a real, validated problem and are building a technical solution around it. The key requirements are a validated problem, a demonstrable technical approach even at prototype level, and a full-time commitment from the founding team. Selected idea-stage teams receive up to ₦2 million in equity-free funding alongside all the programme benefits.
Growth Track: This is for startups that already have a working product with initial users or some revenue, and have been operating for at least six months. This track is designed to accelerate commercial traction and help founders reach the point where they are ready for larger investment conversations. Selected growth-stage startups receive up to ₦5 million in equity-free funding.
The distinction between the two tracks is important. Applying to the Growth Track without meeting the working-product and six-month operational requirements puts your application at a disadvantage. Be honest about your stage and apply to the track where your current situation genuinely fits.
Sectors the Programme Focuses On
The IIH SHIFT Programme 2026 is not sector-neutral in the way most accelerators are. It is specifically oriented toward deep-tech and frontier technology, which means sectors where the technology itself is the primary source of competitive advantage and where genuine technical depth is required to build something defensible.
The programme covers Artificial Intelligence, HealthTech, EdTech, CleanTech, CreativeTech, and other frontier technology categories. What connects these sectors is the level of technical complexity involved and the potential for the solutions built within them to have significant economic and social impact at scale in Nigeria and across Africa.
If your product is a standard web application, a marketplace, or a content platform without a meaningful technology differentiator at the core, the IIH SHIFT Programme is not the right fit. If your product involves novel AI models, hardware innovation, health diagnostics technology, climate solutions, or any area where technical depth is the primary thing that makes your solution hard to copy, this is the programme for you.
Who Should Apply
The IIH SHIFT Programme 2026 is designed for teams rather than solo founders. All teams must have two to four members and at least one technical co-founder. The technical co-founder requirement reflects the programme’s orientation: it is not looking for business-only teams who plan to outsource the engineering. It is looking for founders who understand the technology they are building from the inside.
The programme is open to student and research innovators with a tech-driven idea, early-stage startups seeking market launch, and local SMEs that are trying to digitise their operations or integrate new technology into an existing business. The range from student innovators to operating SMEs is deliberately broad, because the pipeline for frontier technology in Nigeria includes all three.
The programme has committed that at least 30% of admitted teams will include female founders or founders from underserved communities. That commitment reflects a deliberate diversity priority in selection, which means teams with female co-founders or underserved-community members are actively prioritised rather than just theoretically included.
No geographic restriction to Ilorin or Kwara State has been published. Given the programme’s co-delivery with CcHUB and the backing of IHS Towers, which operates nationally, Nigerian founders across all states are encouraged to apply.
