If you are running an early-stage fintech startup anywhere in Africa, you already know the ultimate goal is getting inside the right rooms. You need to look regulators in the eye, get your product in front of corporate partners, and pitch directly to the venture capitalists holding the checkbooks.
The Africa Fintech Summit (AFTS) has spent nearly a decade opening those exact doors. Applications are now live for the AFTS Alpha Expo Micro Accelerator & Pitch Competition 2026, and it remains one of the highest-leverage launchpads on the continent.
What is it About?
This isn’t just another basic pitch night. The Alpha Expo is a highly targeted growth initiative designed to showcase 25 elite, early-stage tech innovators at the 16th Africa Fintech Summit, happening live in Kigali, Rwanda on November 18–19, 2026.
The program takes your startup through a rapid virtual scaling framework before putting you live on stage in front of global funds, ecosystem builders, and policymakers. To support local innovation, AFTS is working directly with Rwanda’s Ministry of ICT & Innovation to reserve 50% of the cohort spots for Rwandan-based founders, while the remaining half of the cohort is drawn from the rest of the continent.
Who Should Apply?
The selection committee is looking for hungry, early-stage teams with deep market potential. You should get your application in if you meet these baseline requirements:
- Sector Focus: You operate in fintech or a fintech-adjacent space (including Payments, Digital Banking, Stablecoins, AI, E-Commerce, Reg-tech, Logistics, Trade-tech, or Mobile Money).
- Funding Cap: Your startup must be genuinely early-stage, having raised less than $1 Million USD in external funding.
- African Nexus: Your business must be legally registered in Africa, actively operational here, expanding to the continent, or serving the African Diaspora globally.
- Availability: You must be fully able to travel to Kigali, Rwanda, to pitch your product live in person this November.
What You’ll Gain
The track record here speaks for itself—Alpha Expo alumni (including massive names like PiggyVest and Yellow Card) have collectively gone on to raise over $400 Million USD after participating. Landing a spot gets you:
- The Main Stage: A live slot to pitch your solution directly to global venture capital firms and angel networks.
- Summit Real Estate: Two complimentary delegate passes and a dedicated, free exhibition booth at the summit to demo your product to thousands of attendees.
- Investor Readiness: Specialized pitch coaching, institutional readiness training, and masterclasses led by top-tier industry operators.
- Funding & Connections: Direct access to a cash prize pool and immediate networking with active corporate partners.
