If you have been sitting on an agribusiness idea because you do not have the capital to start, this one deserves your attention this week. The AGRA-SMEDAN Youth Agri-Innovation Contest 2026 is putting up to ₦5 million in prize money in front of young Nigerians.
You do not need a finished product, land or collateral. An idea, a prototype or a growing farm business can all get you in the door.
Time is short, though. Entries close on Friday 16 October 2026, so this is one to act on now.
About the Programme
The contest is run by AGRA (Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa) and SMEDAN, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, together with Jesnoch International Limited. Incubation Hub Nigeria Limited delivers it on the ground.
It sits under an AGRA-funded project aimed at strengthening business development services and access to finance for agricultural SMEs. In plain terms, they want young people to build farm-linked businesses that banks and buyers can actually work with.
Eligible areas include climate-smart farming, agri-tech, agro-processing, supply chains, and agri-finance, insurance and farm security.
Benefits
The cash is real. The winner takes home ₦5,000,000, the first runner-up gets ₦3,000,000 and the second runner-up gets ₦2,000,000. Places four to ten each receive ₦1,000,000.
The ten winners also get incubation support, about six months of mentorship and introductions to financiers and buyers. For an early-stage farmer or agripreneur, those introductions can be worth more than the cheque.
Even if you do not win, every verified applicant gets free training. A virtual training day holds on Saturday 17 October 2026, and 120 people in Niger, Nasarawa and Kaduna get two in-person days on 21 and 22 October.
Eligibility Criteria
- You must be a Nigerian citizen aged 18 to 35 on the closing date, from any state.
- Ideas, prototypes and growing agribusinesses are all accepted.
- Your idea must fall in an eligible area such as agri-tech, agro-processing, climate-smart farming, supply chains, or agri-finance and insurance.
- Entries are individual, not group applications.
- Women, rural youth and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
- About 60 percent of finalist and in-person training places are weighted toward Niger, Nasarawa and Kaduna. Applicants from other states compete for the remaining places.
